Hardwood Care
Taking the proper care of your flooring will keep them looking their best and will help them last longer.
Take good care of your hardwood floors and they'll last a lifetime.
Water and hardwood floors don't mix! Use only the manufacturer's recommended cleaning products on your hardwood floor.
Small stones, mud and gritty dirt tracked in from outside can scratch the finish of your wood floor. To help combat this, use long bristle welcome mats placed at all outside entrances for people to wipe their feet on before entering onto the floors. Also, vacuum using a soft bristle brush attachment.
Narrow wheels, sharp wooden legs or metal furniture legs can scratch and dent hardwood floors. Any furniture that rests directly on top of a hardwood floor should have felt protectors, or furniture coasters under all legs.
There are many over the counter oil-based soaps and wax based cleaning products that may damage or dull the finish of your wood floor. Only use the manufacturers recommended cleaning products on your hardwood flooring.
If your hardwood floor has a polyurethane finish never use a paste wax on the floor's surface. A paste wax may form a sticky film on your floor and allow tracked in dirt to stick to your wood finish. Wax will not adhere to a polyurethane finish and may make re-application of polyurethane difficult.
When accidents occur and liquid is spilled on your hardwood floor, use a slightly damp white cloth, or paper towel to immediately clean up and dry the affected area. For more difficult spots, follow the manufacturer's recommended cleaning procedures.
Sweep, Vacuum or dust at least once a week. Remove loose dirt before it can scratch or be ground into the floor's surface.
To ensure and maintain the beauty of your Hardwood flooring, we recommend using one of our manufacturer's cleaning kit's.
Avoid damp cleaning, oil or oil-based cleaners, water-based liquid wax or past wax, soap and harsh chemical cleaners,
and be sure to adhere to that manufacturer's cleaning procedures.

Tips to Keeping Your Floor In Original Condition
1. Regularly sweep or vacuum the floor to prevent sand or other abrasives from accumulating and scratching the finish. Do not wet mop your hardwood Wood Floor or use cleaner that must be mixed with water.
2. To help prevent scratches or water from damaging your floor place rugs inside every outside entrance of the house, in front of the kitchen sink, kitchen working stations and the dishwasher.
3. Use protective pads under all furniture and chair legs in order to ease their movement and prevent scratching. Certain types of casters may also result in damage to the floor. It is recommended that barrel-type caster wheels or flat wide wheels be used.
4. Maintain relative humidity level in your home between 40% and 55% throughout the year. Hardwood is a living material that reacts to changes in relative humidity. In areas of very low humidity, a humidifier may be required to maintain proper humidity levels.
5. Spike or stiletto high-heel shoes, especially those in poor repair, may cause denting and related damage to hardwood floors due to the extremely high compressive force they generate. Such footwear can product dynamic loads in excess of 1,800 pounds per square inch, even when worn by someone of slight or average build.
6. Protect your floor from direct sunlight or intense sources of artificial lighting. Over time, intense light will discolor exposed surfaces. This is a natural and normal phenomenon in wood. The lighter the color the more apparent the phenomenon will be.
7. Never use wax, oil-based detergents or any other household cleaner. These may dull or damage the finish leaving an oily residue and making the floor more difficult to clean.
